What it is
Xeomin is botulinum toxin type A, the same active ingredient as Botox. It temporarily relaxes the muscle it's placed in, so the line that muscle creases into the skin softens.
The difference is what's left out. Xeomin is filtered down to the active protein alone, with none of the accessory proteins that come with the other products. That's why it's often the choice when Botox seems to wear off faster than it used to.
What it can do for you
It treats the lines that come from movement, mostly in the upper face.
- Forehead lines soften when you raise your eyebrows.
- The two vertical lines between your brows relax.
- Crow's feet ease when you smile.
- Results look like Botox's: the same areas, the same natural movement.
Is it right for me?
Most healthy adults are good candidates. If you've had Botox before, tell us how long it lasted and how it felt. That helps your provider decide whether Xeomin is worth trying.
Not recommended if
You're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neuromuscular condition or have an infection where you'd be treated. Lines that stay when your face is at rest may need a different treatment.
Who does your treatment
Injections by a nurse practitioner.
Brooke, our nurse practitioner injector, assesses your face first and then chooses the product. If Xeomin is the right fit, she keeps a first treatment conservative and checks the result with you at two weeks.
Before and after your appointment
A few simple guidelines.
The week before
- If your doctor agrees, pause fish oil, vitamin E and high-dose anti-inflammatories for about a week. They can make bruising more likely.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your visit.
- Tell us about any recent illness, vaccinations or dental work.
The 24 hours after
- Stay upright for four hours.
- Don't rub, massage or press on the treated areas.
- Skip hard workouts, saunas and alcohol for a day.
- Small bumps settle within an hour. A bruise can take a few days.
- Judge the result at two weeks. We'll book your follow-up then.

How is Xeomin different from Botox?
Both are botulinum toxin type A and treat the same lines. Xeomin has no accessory proteins, only the active ingredient. Onset, results and how long it lasts are very similar.
Why would I switch from Botox to Xeomin?
Some patients find Botox doesn't last as long as it used to. Because Xeomin carries only the active protein, it's a common next step. Your provider will talk it through with you.
How soon will I see Xeomin results?
Movement starts to soften after three to seven days, and the full effect shows at about two weeks. We book your follow-up then.
How long does Xeomin last?
Usually three to four months. As the muscle starts moving again, the lines gradually return to how they were.
Does Xeomin hurt?
The needle is very fine and each injection takes about a second. Most people describe a quick sting, and no anesthetic is needed.
